Seminary

It is increasingly clear to us that the work of church planting and the training up of future ministers go hand in hand.

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!"

Romans 10: 14-15 – NKJV

Westminster Presbyterian Theological Seminary (WPTS), which is based here in Gateshead, is the UK campus of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

WPTS trains men for ministry through regular face-to-face teaching from Revd Dr Bill Schweitzer and Revd Dr Ian Hamilton (hear his inaugural lectures on Church History), visiting lecturers who deliver intensive courses (such as the Revd Dr Joseph Pipa on Reformed Worship), live electronic teaching from UK-based lecturers, and live electronic teaching from the American campus.

Students are enrolled on one of GPTS’s programmes of study, whether the MDiv, BD, MA for Elders and Deacons or Special Student status, and are eligible to receive the relevant US degree upon completion.

The seminary campus shares its venue with the Gateshead Presbyterian Church offices, giving students the invaluable experience of practical behind-the-scenes church work as well as academic theological training.

We hope to be expanding this new provision both in terms of delivered face-to-face content and student numbers in the coming months and years. If you are interested please get in touch with Rev. Dr. Bill Schweitzer via:
